Kevin Pietersen signs up with Surrey for one year
Despite all the issues related to form before the start of the Ashes, Kevin Pietersen had a piece of good news coming his way. He was signed up by Surrey for a one-year contract after having played for
them towards the end of the previous season after his fall-out with Hampshire.

Pietersen had had issues with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hampshire-c789 in the previous season after he had announced that was looking at shifting to a county which was closer to his home at Chelsea. What added to his woes with the county
was that he hadn’t played any domestic cricket matches for his county in five years.

To add to the problems, the English coach Andy Flower had earlier said that the player must be associated with one or the other county to be eligible to play for England. This means the signing with Surrey
will allow Pietersen to breathe easier.

Despite the lack of runs that Pietersen had when he played for Surrey towards the end of the previous season, the star player said that it was an excellent experience to be a part of the Surrey dressing room.

He added, "I'm delighted to be playing for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Surrey-c851 next season, as I really enjoyed my time with them at the end of this year. I hope I can get some games in over the summer and spend time at this great club,
meeting more of the staff and supporters. I look forward to catching up with the guys when I get back from the Ashes."

While it remains to be seen how many games will Pietersen be able to play for Surrey, it will come as a small relief to the county as well. They had struggled in the previous season of the first class competition
and ended third from bottom in the second division. Batting was their main concern and their only batsman who had done well in the season, Mark Ramprakash was recently ruled out of the season opener due to an injury.

Chief executive of Surrey, Paul Sheldon, said that Pietersen could help the younger players grow as cricketers. He added, "It is a real privilege for Surrey to have signed one of England's greatest players.
When Kevin played for us last season, he was a strong positive influence in the dressing room, especially with our younger players.”
