http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KP-Pietersen-c1806 still wants to play the ICC World T20 2012 – Cricket News Update
Having retired from the limited-overs formats of the international sport, England’s hard-hitting batsman, Kevin Pietersen is still hoping to play the upcoming http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 World T20 2012, which will be played in Sri Lanka in September/October.
The http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 born cricketer decided to restrict himself to Test cricket earlier this year. Pietersen wanted to keep on playing T20 Internationals but as per the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) rules, a player must be available for both the shorter
versions (50-overs and T20s), or none.
The 32-year-old played a massive role in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c749 title triumph in the ICC World T20 2010 in the Caribbean and was named as the Player of the Tournament.
Some of the game’s pundits believe that the legendary batsman’s absence is going to hamper the Poms’ chances in the mega event. However, Pietersen made it clear that he is available for the tournament in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758, if the board is ready to compromise on
its rules.
"I still hope there might be a compromise for the World Twenty20 in Sri Lanka," he said. "The squad hasn't been announced. I would love to play in that and defend our title with England."
Some of the critics are of the opinion that the Indian Premier League (IPL) has been the motivation behind the batsman’s retirement.
Pietersen is a great admirer of the cash-rich league and feels that the players have the right to earn more, if they get an opportunity anywhere in the world. He urged all the cricket boards, especially England’s, to adjust their schedules according to IPL,
otherwise, he warned, the star players will start to prefer franchise cricket.
The former England captain loves IPL’s atmosphere and believes that it is great entertainment for the masses all around the world.
Pietersen claims, "It's going to be there and players want to play in it. Players want to go and earn their money and unless you let them decisions will have to be made. Big players want to play in front of big audiences. The window for that has been created
by the other boards but unfortunately not ours."
