Kevin Pietersen to raise funds for Australian flood victims
England batsman Kevin Pietersen has joined the bandwagon to raise funds for the Queensland flood victims in Australia.
He has generously offered to auction a bat and an England shirt that he used during their Ashes campaign in a bid to raise money for the flash floods that has caused havoc in the northeastern region of the mainland continent.
The 30-year-old top order batsman showed keen interest in doing something for the flood victims when he initially asked his followers on the micro-blogging website, Twitter, to give him ideas for raising funds.
“These floods in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Queensland-c834 are horrific!! Is there anything we as sportsmen could do to help?? Thoughts??,” his Twitter post read.
After some time, he said, “Thanks for all your suggestions... Gotta try and help people!! This is so sad!!”
Pietersen headlined England’s Ashes triumph in Australia as they convincingly won the five-match series by 3-1.
Pietersen, who is currently preparing for the seven-match One Day International series and two-match Twenty20 series against Australia, later announced on his Twitter page that he will be auctioning his Ashes winning shirt and one of his bats.
“I’m prepared to auction off one of my Ashes winning shirts & one of my bats personalized to the highest bidder.. Let me find a way of doing this today!! I’ll get back to you,” he posted on the site.
After an hour, he told his 151,128 followers that he will also be auctioning two tickets for their last ODI against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 in Perth that is scheduled for 6 February 2011. He also stated that he will pay for all the expenses including two nights’ accommodation
to the highest bidder.
It is not clear how cricket enthusiasts will get to bid as Pietersen said that he will be working some way to begin the process in the “next 24 hours.”
The flash floods have swept through in the northeastern areas of Australia, drowning eight people while around 70 people are reportedly missing.
