Kevin Pietersen to remain with Surrey until the end of his ECB central contract - Cricket News Update
The prolific English batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KP-Pietersen-c1806 signed an ‘indefinite period’ deal with the Surrey County Cricket Club on Thursday. As per the agreement, the player is bound with the club until the end of his international career.
The Surrey County Cricket Club confirmed the news, saying, "Kevin Pietersen has extended his contract with Surrey until the end of his central contract with England."
Pietersen’s deal with the club marks an end to the rumors which suggested that the player is trying to break free from County cricket to become the first ever free agent English cricketer.
The 31-year-old top-order batsman from Natal had first joined Surrey CCC on a brief loan spell at the end of the 2010 season, after the batting all-rounder left http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hampshire-c789 citing personal problems. His brief stint with Surrey at the end of the 2010 season
was mainly meant to regain the lost form, since he was left out of England’s squad for the ODI series against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755.
Overall, he played four games for the club previously; two first-class and two Twenty20 matches. Soon after his return to ODI from a hernia operation, he was appointed as captain of the side for a match against Cambridge MCCU, in which the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lions-c808 prevailed
by 10 wickets.
Even during his stay at Hampshire, he featured in very few county fixtures due to a busy schedule for the English Cricket Team. Pietersen stayed at The Rose Bowl for almost six seasons and appeared in only seven County Championship matches and nineteen limited-over
games.
Pietersen praised the County for its “fantastic environment and work ethic”.
"Surrey is a fantastic club and I have been really impressed with the environment and work ethic in place," said Pietersen after revising his contract with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Surrey-c851 CCC. "Their recent success is well deserved and I look forward to working with them in 2012,"
he added further.
Since the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c749 central contracts are renewed every 12 months, there is no fixed time span for Pietersen’s spell with the Surrey County.
