At 31, Pietersen thinks that his body cannot take the toll of competitive sport throughout the year and this is the reason why he has restricted himself to Test cricket only.
There is a school of thought, according to which, the lanky batsman is not on ideal terms with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) because of his participation in the Indian Premier League (IPL), which led to his retirement. 
Gooch knows that Pietersen is one of the modern-greats and it is never easy to replace a player of such calibre. The right-handed batsman has a massive fan-following all around the world and the former England skipper admitted that the cricket-lovers will
be deprived of great joy, which they used to get by watching KP bat in limited-overs cricket.

the shorter formats of the game at a young age.
