Kevin Pietersen’s Hernia surgery in England remains successful
England cricketing authorities have confirmed the successful surgery of their ace all-rounder Kevin Pietersen who had to cut short his ICC World Cup 2011 campaign in order to head back home to be operated upon.
Describing Pietersen’s condition, England team director Andy Flower said, “We're pleased Kevin has undergone a successful surgery and can shortly begin his rehabilitation programme.”
The prolific all-rounder was replaced by Eoin Morgan who was initially not selected in the 15-member World Cup squad due a finger injury.
According to details, Pietersen had hoped to keep playing until the end of the World Cup with the pain but it was consequently decided by the England team management to send him back for an early treatment. According to Pietersen, the decision to leave the
national team mid-way of their World Cup campaign left him devastated.
Flower clarified that the management knew Kevin would need a surgery once it was clear he was suffering from a Hernia problem. The surgeon’s findings underlining the seriousness of his condition made the decision to send him back easier for the management.
According to reports from England, Pietersen had the surgery on Tuesday. This was also confirmed by the chief medical officer of the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) Dr. Nick Peirce, who also described the operation as a success.
Pierce explained that a small Hernia on the right side was repaired. According to him, there was an area of weakness on the left side which was also repaired by the doctors.
Speaking on his comeback in first-class cricket, Dr Pierce said, “His return to first-class cricket will be determined once he commences his rehabilitation programme but we expect him to be fully fit in time for England's first summer Test starting 26 May.”
Pietersen’s Hernia condition was first detected after an MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) scan following his return in the national squad after the One Day International series in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746, which England lost by 6-1.
The all-rounder showed some good run of form in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2011, which saw him equalling the record of being the fastest player to score 1,000 runs in the ODI format of the game. He opened for England along with skipper Andrew Strauss in the
mega event and looked at ease in his new role. He scored 129 runs in the first three matches as well.
The injury has also ruled him out of the lucrative Indian Premier League 2011 which is scheduled to begin once the Cricket World Cup concludes.
