Kevin Pietersen’s one-day retirement is done and dusted, says an irked Strauss – Cricket News Update
Irked by the repeated discussion of Kevin Pietersen’s untimely retirement from International One Day cricket, the Test captain of England, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AJ-Strauss-c964, asked the media and critiques to stop discussing the matter again and again.
Speaking to the media reporters on Tuesday, the left-handed http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Middlesex-c817 batsman said that KP’s retirement is “done and dusted” and everyone should move on instead of dragging the issue.
"In a lot of ways I think it's probably a relief for him to get it out there and get it done and dusted," said the Test skipper of England when asked to comment on veteran top-order batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KP-Pietersen-c1806’s retirement from ODIs and
T20 Internationals, just a couple of months before the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 World T20 Championship.
Strauss said that it was Kevin’s own choice, which the team and management respect.
"Kevin's made that decision. We all respect it. He went into it with his eyes open and he knew what the ramifications were,” said Strauss, the left-handed opening batsman of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013.
“We're all just looking forward now. It's nice that we're clear and everyone knows where they stand," he added further.
Kevin Pietersen, who is often criticised by former England players and the British media for supporting Indian Premier League, last week announced retirement from the international limited overs cricket, ODIs and T20Is, with immediate
effect. The decision came as a surprise for almost every cricket follower around the globe as KP opted out of T20 cricket just a couple of months before the World T20 championship, to be played in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 in September this year, where England will be defending
the title.
Kevin Pietersen played a vital role in England clinching the World T20 trophy in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 in 2010 and was adjudged as the Player of Tournament as well. His decision to bid farewell to the shortest format of the game could be a huge
blow for England.
It has also been reported that Pietersen had offered to extend his services in the T20 format of the game until the world championship, but a provision in the ECB contract did not allow him to retire from ODI cricket and keep playing
in the shortest format of the game.
