Kevin-Prince Boateng over torrid spell at Tottenham
German-Ghanian midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng has said that he was isolated by his teammates during his spell at Tottenham in the Premier League.
Boateng joined Tottenham from Bundesliga side Hertha BSC in 2007, but following manager Martin Jol's departure and Juande Ramos' arrival, he was excluded from the first team and began playing for the reserves.
In January 2009, Boateng had made only 14 league appearances for the Londoners, and was loaned to Borussia Dortmund for the rest of the season, where he failed to land a permanent deal.
"At Tottenham I had the nickname 'Ghetto Kid,' but it was part of my past down to the silly things a young man does that obviously I’m not proud of," Boateng said of his spell at the club. "It certainly wasn’t a great time of my life in England, even if
it forced me to learn a great deal. I didn’t get on with the manager or some of my teammates, but my private life was also not going well.
After spending last season with Portsmouth, for whom Boateng missed a penalty and injured Chelsea's Michael Ballack in the team's FA Cup final defeat, Boateng was signed by Italian team Genoa CFC this summer. Genoa immediately loaned Boateng to AC Milan.
Despite making a leap into one of Europe's most prolific teams, Boateng has adjusted well for the Italians.
His substitute appearance helped earn the team a 2–0 victory against Auxerre in the Champions League two weeks ago, after which Massimiliano Allegri began starting him regularly.
Boateng, who is enjoying his current situation, added that his both sides of his dual nationality is reflected in his personality and playing side.
"My personality is more Ghanaian, as I’m always happy and smiling. The German side also comes through in my organisation and discipline."
