Kevin Ryan’s charge Tiddliwinks owns the Weatherbys Ireland Greenlands Stakes
The Kevin Ryan trained Tiddliwinks added another big victory to his record as he aced the Group 3 Weatherbys Ireland Greenlands Stakes with a 8-1 chance at Curragh on 26th May, 2012, which gave him the second consecutive victory.
The son of Piccolo, out of mare Card Games, used his swift pace to dominate the track as he was mounted by jockey, Pat Smullen.
It didn’t seem that the six-year-old would succeed and achieve the victory but he broke through all barriers successfully and finished ½ length before Clive Cox’s charge, Jimmy Styles.
The third place was secured by The Reaper who finished a head behind the runner-up whereas Fire Lily, who raced as a favourite with a 9-4 shot and finished in sixth place, 3 lengths behind the winner.
The bay gelding took home the money in the Group 2 Duke of York Totepool Stakes, where he was the mount for talented jockey, Jamie Spencer, at York on 16th May, 2012.
Spencer worked his magic on the runner and guided him to the narrow victory as he finished a head before The Cheka, who is trained by Eve Johnson Houghton.
This was the eight victory of the Guy Reed owned runner’s career and he has ensured his connections that he can bag another one as well.
At the same track, Glor Na Mara used his 9-1 shot to prove the punters wrong as he skillfully finished first in the Emirates Equestrian Federation Handicap at Curragh on 26th May, 2012, where he broke through the wire just a neck before the David
Marnane trained Dandy Boy, and left Banna Boirche to finish third, 2 lengths behind the runner-up.
The four-year-old performed brilliantly when he first began racing but faced some setbacks along the way, but it seems that he is on his way to recovery.
Trainer Jim Bolger spoke of Glor Na Mara:
"We know where he was a couple of years ago when he was third to Frankel. We never found any reason why his form tapered off, but we've not given up hope and hopefully we'll get him back in time. He could go for the Ballycorus Stakes at Leopardstown."
