I was fortunate enough to meet him yesterday and asked him the question about who he thought would struggle and might not make it?

His answer was that they kept a close eye on all there new recruits but the two they had to put the most work on were

Kevin Walsh

Dean Wallis

It was a great day for AFL in Townsville yesterday, the new stadium will help the game at grass roots level

The Brisbane Lions squad will do a four day community camp in February and hopefully a pre season game in 2009

I think you have to ask a question

Is your junior or local team still around?

Mine unfortunately folded in 1995

  1. Thats awesome campdog, really happy that you had a chance to ask your question and I was really looking forward to Sheedy's reply, so thanks for posting it :))

My local team when growing up were the  Box Hill Hawks and they are still around and are now in the VFL.  The local side where I live now are still around and going strong.

  2. they were his two project players, i know my essendon mates always said those two were his love children,  they always bagged them two.  most teams have a love hate relationship with a player or two.

i hate collingwood no matter how many times the sooks get my questions deleted, whoever does it, r.r or cutey, it doesn't bother me, just shows how petty you are, you too, deedubby, it'd be out of you 3, lover said its not her, and i have never reported a single person, bloody sooks.

  3. Reading Ray's post has also caused me to reminisce!

My country junior & senior teams are still going strong & winning premierships.

However I was involved in a nipper's competition while working in the Easter Goldfields. Leonora, Laverton & Leinster made up the competition. Leonora were playing Leinster (a closed mining town) & I was involved with the Leonora team - every single player was aboriginal - Leinster, every kid was white & splendidly attired in spotless red & white.

My kids wore maroon & gold. Out of the whole team of little aboriginal kids there was one pair of football boots & one pair of socks - owned jointly by two brothers of very similar size! They shared the boots & socks, but rather than wear them for a half each - they ran out onto the ground with one kid wearing the left boot - the other the right! They played the whole match that way. All the other kids played barefooted.

There were two Sydney detectives visiting, on a major murder inquiry, & for a break they watched the footy for a while. They really cracked up at the sight & both must have taken a full film of pics of thse kids.

Yes, I know. I'll cop the usual flack for waffling on!

  4. Good on you for asking and good on Sheeds for giving you what sounded like a straight answer.

Is my local team still around?  The team I founded, actually - along with two guys called Larry and Jeff.  I'm not 100% sure.  We were the first school football team in the Hunter Valley and had to travel down to the south of Newcastle to get a game.  There were three teams in the competition!!!  And half the time we played on converted league fields with witch's hats for behind posts!!

Last I checked, it and the Maitland Magpies (the senior team it spawned) were still playing but that was 15 to 20 years ago.  The senior comp consisted of two RAAF teams (Williamtown and 'Nelson Bay'), a navy team (Warner's Bay) and an Army team (Singleton) before we introduced Maitland and then I think it was Newcastle City (roughly like that anyway).

Ah, excuse me while I reminisce!

  5. Dean Wallis was Kevin Sheedys love child i think
