Kevin Sinfield of Leeds Rhinos, marches to another milestone - Super League News
Kevin Sinfield, captain for Leeds Rhinos, has reached another milestone as he became the highest point-scorer in the Super League with 2,410 points on Friday, July 29. Rhinos not only earned a win of 30-22 against Salford City Reds, they were also graced
by five goals from Sinfield in Friday night’s encounter at Willows ground.
Sinfield’s magnificent performance against Reds during the match has manoeuvred him to 2410 points, which surpasses the records held by the previous highest point-scorer, Paul Deacon, with 2,409 points.
At Willows, Sinfield has topped the charts by leapfrogging 10 points from his previous standing and leaving Deacon behind by a point.
This is the second milestone which has been achieved by him just a week apart from his first one that was his franchise’s highest goal scorer surpassing Lewis Jones’ record. The five goals scored during the recent clash have further extended the record of
highest number of goals earned by Rhinos, last season.
Overjoyed with the 30-year-old Rhino’s outstanding achievements, Brian McDermott, the Rhinos’ coach, has decided to honour their skipper by making his statue. With still four more years to serve, Rhinos’ skipper has a lot to offer.
While commenting on the Leeds’ milestone studded victory, Brian McDermott, the head coach of the outfit stated, “If you can break records at Leeds - given the players they have had over the decades - you are doing some special stuff. But the scary thing
is that Kevin Sinfield has got another four years at least left in his career. Salford gave it a crack. I didn't think they were great with the ball and probably dropped too many but they certainly did not ease off the gas.”
Mc Dermott further mentioned that their squad defended themselves strongly after a formidable start offered by Salfords. He further agreed that Reds continued to offer resistance throughout the length of game by attacking all too often.
Matt Parish, who was coaching the first match for Salfords, had to face his first defeat on home ground after offering some resistance to the visitors.
Parish acknowledged that the first-half had convinced Leeds that they will bag an easy win against the Rhinos and the Reds failed to exhibit their attacking side later on and gave away the match.
It was furthered added that the Reds put up a good a fight against the Rhinos but they also missed out on a number of opportunities which could easily be converted into points.
Sienfield has had a huge part to play in keeping Rhinos unbeaten at Engage Super League’s so far, this being the second one at Willows.
