Kevin Sinfield of Leeds Rhinos humbled by statue request - Rugby news

Kevin Sinfield, the skipper for Leeds Rhinos, said that he would rather have the Carneigie Challenge Cup title under his belt instead of getting a statue made to honour his milestone-studded season.
Sinfield recently surpassed all previous records to be branded as the highest point-scorer with the mark of 2,410 points reached during the Super League’s clash against the Salford City Reds in a tight win of 30-22 on Friday, July 29. This milestone broke
the record of Paul Deacon with 2,409 points, at the Willows ground, as this clash grabbed five goals from Sinfield, who leap-frogged by 10 points in a single go.
This season is a fortunate one for Sinfield as it is studded with two milestones in his playing career. Just a week prior to this, Sinfield had broken the record of Lewis Jones as the highest goal scorer of his club. At Willows, by scoring five more goals,
Sinfield has further extended the precedent set by him.
Overwhelmed by the exceptional performance shown by Sinfield at Willows on Friday, Brain McDermott, who coaches Rhinos, had asked for a life size figure to be erected to honour the achievement of his skipper.
While commenting on the idea that was initiated by his coach, McDermott, Sinfield stated, “It's a bit embarrassing. I'm delighted to have broken the records but it's very much a team thing for me. The only thing I want are a couple more winners' medals.”
Sinfield was delighted to know about the requests that were flocking in but he was of the view point that there are others who deserve to have this kind of treatment more, referring to Lewis Jones and John Holmes.
While commenting on the matter, Sinfield stated, "It's really nice that it's been suggested and I'm humbled by it but there are people like Lewis Jones and John Holmes who are more deserving than I am and there are some other great players who have done
some fantastic things for this club.”
Sinfield added that he is hoping for a long playing career so that he achieves his ambition of making Leeds a much better franchise in comparison to the rest of the competition.
