Kevin Slowey reflects on Minnesota Twins latest 4-5 loss to the Seattle Mariners
The Seattle Mariners took a series win over the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday, September 21, at the Target Field in Minneapolis, as the home team lost the bout 4-5.
The Twins had every chance to strike back as Kevin Slowey provided cover from the mound. The loss however would be picked up by the hurler as he went on to concede five runs in his last 1.2 innings.
Slowey must have been heartbroken over his recent slump in the game against the Mariners. He pitched scoreless innings in the game before he instantly gave up his focus to lead the club 5-2 down. The star player had to be taken out of the attack as the manager
Ron Gardenhire could not swallow the ball thrower’s weak pitching stance on the mound.
Mariners scored through Ichiro Suzuki, Kyle Seager, Wily Mo Pena, Miguel Olivo and Trayvon Robinson. All the scorers managed their runs in the sixth and seventh innings. Unable to quell the Mariners, the Twins crashed out of the game.
Trevor Plouffe had an opportunity in the fifth to put the Twins further ahead at the time and he squandered the opportunity with a double play ball. Slowey spoke in reference to Greek Mythology to explain the Twins’ situation, at the moment.
"At this point, in this clubhouse, it's like we're watching the fate of Sisyphus himself," said Slowey. "We just get to the top of that hill, and just can't seem to figure it out. So, it's been pretty tough."
The star is 0-7 in the season and his team is five game losses shy of making it 100 defeats for the season. For the club, it’s important to generate wins.
"I think every win is important, not just for me, but for this team," Slowey said. "I'm not going out there and trying to make sure that I get a win so much as we need to win games in here."
Slowey has a hard record this year and if there is anything he wants more right now is a win to end his season.
