Kevin Smith carted off with sprained ankle during Lion’s defeat to Packers – NFL News
It was not a great Thanksgiving Day for Detroit Lions this year. Losing the game to Green Bay Packers 27-15 and having defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh ejected, Lions now have to contend with another injury at running back as Kevin
Smith is injured again with a sprained ankle.
Smith was taken off early in the second quarter and had to be carted off to the locker rooms being replaced by Maurice Morris.
Speaking about the injury to reporters Smith had some good news, "It wasn't that bad, it's just a matter of I couldn't cut. My X-ray came back negative. ... I think we've just got to do further tests. We'll have to evaluate and
do tests but in my mind, I'll be fine. We have 10 days of rest, just have to get on the treatment and see what happens."
Lions are already facing an injury crisis in the running back position. Jahvid Best is still out as he recovers from a concussion. Morris and Keiland Williams are the only two experienced running backs in Lions lineup with Rookie
Mikel Leshoure the only other option.
Detroit’s injury woes did not end with Smith in today’s game with three defenders on the injury list. Defensive backs Louis Delmas, Chris Houston and Brandon McDonald all got knee injuries and later updates will reveal the extent
of time it will take for them to recover.
Lions Coach Jim Schwartz did not know the extent of the injuries to his players after the game. Talking to the press, he said, “Too early to say. But let's be optimistic. Let's hope none of them are."
Smith was having a good game against Green Bay Packers before he had to go off after the injury. The running back had three receives for 21 yards and seven carries for 36 yards before being cut short by injury. His speed and agility
were missed greatly by Lions as they put in an underwhelming performance today.
Detroit Lions will now look to get back to winning ways as they face New Orleans Saints in week 13 of the National Football League to continue their charge towards the playoffs.
