Kevin Stadler charges in the second round of the FedEx St. Jude Classic
Kevin Stadler fired a five-under par 65 in the second round of the FedEx St. Jude Classic to share the second spot on Friday, June 8, 2012.
Stadler had recorded the second best round of the day after J.B. Holmes, who had a six-under par score at the end of the day.
He managed to score three birdies each on the front and back nine of the course. However, the birdies on the back nine were accompanied with a bogey on the par-three 14th hole.
Therefore, he settled for a stroke behind the leader, McIlroy, who had the same score to go seven under for the two rounds.
“I drive it really well. Hit a lot of fairways and greens. It was simple as the 5-under round you can have,” the 32-year-old American said. “It was nice. Not awestruck. I think the only bogey I made was a par-3. A pitch shot I had to hit. It was good”.
Stadler believes that he could have signed a better score in the conditions that he had on the course.
It was also a bit weird to hear the comments made by him because everyone else looked to make efforts on the course.
He also said that he was amazing with his ball striking throughout the day, which was the major reason behind posting such a good score on the leaderboard.
“I've been driving it pretty well the last two weeks,” he said. “Hitting it a little more solid. Hit it pretty nice. Just a touch off yesterday and kind of got it straightened away in the afternoon. Had a good warm-up session. I drove it really nice, hit
a lot of fairways. Didn't miss any greens”.
However, he was not happy with his overall performance compared to his past records, as he told that it was one of his favourite golf courses around the world. Therefore, he wants to go further low and record the first PGA Tour victory of his career.
In the meantime, J.B. Holmes and the overnight leader Jeff Maggert also joined him on the leaderboard to share the second spot.
