After being named the Netherlands captain by Louis van Gaal, the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/PSV-c40281 midfielder is determined to put in more effort in the upcoming 2014 World Cup qualifiers.
PSV Eindhoven star midfielder, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Kevin-Strootman-c20775, is one of the most sought out midfielders playing in the highest echelons of Dutch football for the past couple of seasons.
The 22-year-old was playing for the Eerste Divisie outfit, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Utrecht-c39237 saw the youngster’s performances, and lured him to Galgenwaard Stadion half-way through the season.
After making 14 Eredivisie appearances for the Utreg in the Dutch top flight, the Boeren management earmarked the talented midfielder as a perfect addition to their squad, and managed to lure him to Philips Stadion in the summer of 2011.
Since joining the Eindhoven giants, the 22-year-old has established himself as one of the key players in the playing XI.
Meanwhile, Strootman had already made his debut for the Oranje in a friendly game against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Theo-Janssen-c34871.
Although, the highly-talented midfielder impressed the Flying Dutchmen then coach, Bert van Marwijk, he still failed to cement his place in the playing XI.
However, since Louis van Gaal has taken the reins of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Netherlands-c753 earlier this summer, the young midfield maestro has been a regular for the Oranje.
Following his consistent and scintillating performances, Van Gaal named the youngster as his side’s new captain.
Strootman, who has thus far represented the Flying Dutchmen in only 13 matches, will be the youngest player to captain the team in a competitive game, when the Oranje will take on http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Andorra-c2837 at De Kuip Stadion in the 2014 World Cup qualifier on October 12.
And the former FC Utrecht midfielder is determined to perform brightly in the upcoming qualifiers.
“Things are going very fast and this happens with highs and lows. That's typical for a young player, but I don't want to hide behind my age. There's no room for excuses when you have already made numerous Eredivisie appearances and have made 13 international
appearances. I have to limit the lows, and make sure I always reach a certain level”, Strootman concluded.
