Kevin Thomson injury not as bad as feared
Middlesbrough has been handed a boost after it was confirmed Kevin Thomson did not break his leg during the 2-2 draw against Portsmouth.
The Scotland international was taken from the pitch on a stretcher following a collision with Portsmouth's Michael Brown. There were fears that Thomson had snapped a bone but the player has confirmed there
is no break.
"It's a huge relief to discover it's not fractured, but I feared the worst when I was booted on the leg just where it was broken [previous injury].
I sat and worried about going to hospital, but the tests were clear. It'll be two weeks before recovery," said Thomson.
Thomson is a highly versatile player who can cover a number of positions. The good news is that he can still play a part this season when there were fears he'd be out until
into next summer.
A useful player
Thomson is a useful player because he can play different positions and roles across the Middlesbrough midfield. This makes him a valuable squad player and means he can
fill in for others.
There was a very negative reaction during the game after Brown's tackle. A few Middlesbrough players let their heads drop because Thomson looked in a large amount of pain.
It was an upsetting incident to witness.
It will also have a positive personal reaction on the player. Thomson has already suffered a leg break during his career and another long-term injury could have mentally
destroyed the player.
These players will get a boost through this news. It should lift the squad and will cause a few players to raise their performance levels in the club's next game.
"He was badly kicked twice, but the referee decided in his wisdom that
kicking players who have just come back from a broken leg was OK," added Middlesbrough manager Gordon Strachan.
Betting advice
Middlesbrough has not had the best start to the Championship season. The club sits in 18th place but still has a very good chance of promotion. Back the side to make the
play-offs at the very least.
