Kevin Youkilis might wear New York Yankees’ uniform – MLB Update
The New York Yankees are currently facing some unexpected late troubles which are also provoking them to make changes in order to get sustained performance in the next Major League Baseball season.
Reports are coming in the media that free agent Kevin Youkilis is now a priority for the Yankees after their star third baseman Alex Rodriguez is to have hip surgery. The team fear him being out from baseball for potentially the first half of 2013 season.
“I’ve had a few of maybe the names I wouldn’t have thought of — lesser names that I wouldn’t have an interest in — volunteer their services for that position, I’ve had some people suggest, ‘Hey, my guy who plays second base, he can swing over to play third.’ That type of stuff. I don’t have an interest in stuff like that,” New York Yankees' general Brian Cashman said.
The Yankees are also aware that Rodriguez’s absence might give them more trouble as they now made Youkilis their top priority. Youkilis is highly talented individual and possesses the right amount of experience in Major League Baseball.
“The one thing I know about Alex is his work ethic is tremendous, and he’s going to work hard to get back to a level that he can play at a very high level,” Yankees' Joe Girardi said.
He last played for the Chicago White Sox and showed his enormous power and hitting skills. He is also a good fielder and plays all-round with his best abilities.
Having eight years of big league experience, Youkilis knows all tricks of the trade as well. Last season, representing Chicago White Sox, he finished with .235 hitting average along with 19 homers, 60 RBIs and .336 OBP.
Overall he also possesses large experience and his career hitting average of .283 along with 148 home-runs, 610 RBIs and .384 OBP also makes him a great player in the league.
On the other hand, Rodriguez, whom Youkilis potentially will be replacing, finished with last season with .272 hitting average along with 18 homers, 57 RBIs and .353 OBP. While overall his career hitting average of .300 along with 647 home-runs, 1950 RBIs and .384 average is a great record itself.
