Kevin Youkilis shines as Chicago White Sox beat Texas Rangers 2-1 – MLB Recap
The Chicago White Sox defeated the Texas Rangers 2-1 in the third and final game of their three-match regular series encounter on Thursday, July 5 at U.S. Cellular Field.
The series was already won by the White Sox but still they played with enormous power and never showed any loop-holes in their game.
First baseman Kevin Youkilis played tremendously for the White Sox as his solo homer to right-field in the bottom of the sixth gave his team a series sweep over the American League West leaders.
Along with Kevin Youkilis, the White Sox pitching prowess of Jose Quintana and closer Addison Reed also performed brilliantly and earned a great win for their team.
"I just drank a lot of water for sure and tried to stay hydrated, And the other thing was not trying to rush the game. I wanted to make sure I had quality pitches I was throwing." said Quintana on his particular outing in which he felt quite comfortable on the mound for eight innings.
Later Chicago manager Robin Ventura commented on Quintana’s great outing and appreciated with great satisfaction as he said, “He has a great feel on the mound, great stuff. He's more mature than you would think, We're lucky in the situation we're in with Johnny going down; he was there to pick it up and pitch the way he has."
Quintana finished after eight innings of his spell giving only one run on two hits. He struck-out eight as his ERA remained consistent at 2.04.
Reed on the other hand, pitched one inning and went scoreless while his ERA also remained persistent at 3.90.
Though the Rangers lost the game, their manager seemed satisfied with his team’s effort.
Rangers’ manager Ron Washington said, "We're in first place in the West. That's where we are, That's what this series told us.”
In the meanwhile, Matt Harrison despite playing well for the Rangers could not save the game as he was hit for two runs on eight hits. He also restricted the White Sox to two earned runs as well with five strike-outs.
