Kevin Youkilis shines but Chicago White Sox fall to Detroit Tigers 6-8 – MLB Update
Chicago White Sox crashed to an embarrassing 6-8 loss to the Detroit Tigers at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago, Illinois on Wednesday, September 12 in third game of their four match series.
Kevin Youkilis provided Chicago with the kind of start they were hoping for as he homered to left in the fourth inning to break the deadlock and put his side on the board. Alejandro De Aza singled to right and Youkilis hit his second home-run in the eighth
to reduce the Tigers lead 8-5.
Alexei Ramirez also made a useful contribution with the bat as he grounded out to shortstop in the bottom of the ninth. However, Tigers’ closer Jose Valverde held his nerves under pressure to help his team prevail.
"I knew coming in we had to win these games. This was going to be the biggest start of the season for me, and I wanted to go out," Tigers’ starter Max Scherzer said.
"We're going to have to win games after tomorrow, too," Chicago manager Robin Ventura said. "We're going to face good pitchers just like him (Verlander). ... Scherzer pitched great, there was nothing going on there. You just continue to play. We're not quitting
at any point. That's the one great thing about the team, they're not going to get down where they're giving up."
After losing in the opener, Tigers put up a dominant show in Game 2 and they continued the good work in Game 3 to take a crucial 2-1 series. Manager Jim Leyland will be extremely happy with what he seen from the batters in the last two games.
Surely, he will be expecting his team to put up another masterful performance in the finale to get back to the top of the American League Central Division standings table.
White Sox, on the other hand, will be disgusted with quality of their game-play in their last two meetings with Detroit. Despite having the home conditions working in their favour, they were unable to find winning ways. It will be interesting to see if they
can turn things around in the finale to avoid another embarrassing series defeat against their AL Central rivals.
