Kevyn Adams moves up in coaching ranks, promoted as Buffalo Sabres assistant coach –NHL Update
Buffalo Sabres general manager, Lindy Ruff, was confused on who to hire as the teams’ assistant coach, after interviewing nearly 30 applicants for the position, Ruff found out that the best person for the position had been under his nose the whole time.
Kevyn Adams, now a former player development coach, had taken charge of his position in 2009 and has been working with players on their skills improvement through various techniques including on-ice drills and off-ice video training, for the past two seasons.
Seeing the monumental improvement Adams has given to the franchise, Ruff believed that Adams not only deserves the appointment, but is also very talented and capable to fill in the gap.
“Kevyn is going to work with the forwards, and be involved in the special teams, and continue the development work with the players. I’ve got some different thoughts on our special teams, and I’d like to utilize all three coaches. I think that’s how you
develop”, Ruff said. “Kevyn may be a voice in one or the other, and I’ve talked to him about it. I don’t think solely do I want either coach just to run either (the power play or penalty kill)”.
Whatever GM Ruff might believe, Adams blames it all on his passion and love for the game.
"I quickly realized when I started in the development role that I loved the teaching, loved being on the ice, loved the coaching, loved the video part", Adams said.
It might be a lot of things which add up in building Kevyn’s abilities as a coach. Also being a former National Hockey League (NHL) player might also be the reason. Selected as the 25 overall pick in round-one of the 1993 NHL Entry Draft by Boston, Adams
boasts a 10 season career in the major league, which is always an added advantage.
Having played with teams like Toronto Maple Leafs, Columbus Blue Jackets, Florida Panthers, Carolina Hurricanes, Phoenix Coyotes and lastly, Chicago Blackhawks, Kevyn Adams provides the perfect combination of well-rounded experience with a number of teams,
which will allow him to use all attributes of various coaches around the league for his own advantage.
