Key Detroit Tigers’ players in 2012 Spring Training – MLB News
Undoubtedly, Detroit Tigers are one of the favourites to win the American League Central Division title this season. However, Tigers’ general manager Dave Dombrowski has his eyes set on a bigger prize, the World Series title. Last season, the Tigers were unable to maintain their great form in the playoffs, which led to a large amount of criticism from fans.
If manager Jim Leyland can somehow find a way to handle all the stars in his team, the Tigers will be very hard to beat. To achieve their desired goals, the Tigers will be hoping that Cabrera lives up to the expectations at third base. He has shown in the past that he can adapt to different positions in the line-up. Although Cabrera is considered to be a poor fielder, he has already started to train with Tigers’ coaching staff to shut his critics.
Last season Cabrera had a great time with the bat as he hit with an impressive average to earn another 30 home-run and 100 RBI season. It will be interesting to see if he can maintain his sensational form in 2012 as well to help the Tigers reach the playoffs. The fans are also waiting to see their favourite hitter back on the field. There is great amount of responsibility on Cabrera’s shoulder this season. He is one of the senior players in Tigers’ side and the GM will be relying heavily on him to perform consistently.
Prince Fielder, who was signed for $214 million by the Tigers, is the most talked about player in Major League Baseball right now. His multi-million dollar deal was the fourth largest in history of the game and he will have a lot to prove in the upcoming season. The Tigers will be looking to utilise him to his maximum ability to earn a decent return on their investment.
Austin Jackson is another player who can play a crucial role in deciding the outcome of Tigers 2012 campaign. He gave outstanding results last season and he is an asset to have on the field. He will be working hard to make the most of available opportunities this season.
