Key Gold to build on her performance in the Ritec Clearshield Handicap at Haydock   
Taking sides with the mile and six furlong distance in the Class 5 Ritec Clearshield Handicap at Haydock on Thursday, 5th July is, Key Gold.
The 3 to 1 entry is highly likely to lead the rest of the nine, three-year-old contestants as they have not really raised the bar for the competition for the £2,264 prize money today.
Cape Cross’ three-year-old bay filly debuted her racing career on 28th September, 2011 at Nottingham but could not have met a more miserable fate than finishing tenth in the field of fifteen in the British Stallion Studs Supporting British Racing E B F Maiden Fillies’ Stakes.
The three-year-old bay filly then ended fifth in the British Stallion Studs Supporting British Racing E B F Soar Maiden Stakes (Division I) on 11th October, 2011 at Leicester.
Breaking the maiden successfully was, Thomas Chippendale, winning by a neck’s margin.
She failed at breaking the maiden for the last time on 7th January, 2012 at Lingfield over a mile and two furlongs in the Fa Cup Betting At Bluesq.Com Maiden Stakes. This time she finished second, missing the race by half-length, while the race was won by Ex Oriente.
After missing three chances, Key Gold broke the maiden through the fourth outing. Mark Johnston trained won the Betfred “Double Delight” E B F Maiden Stakes on 7th April, 2012 at Musselburgh over a mile and four and one-half furlongs.
The favourite winner won by a decent margin of 2 ¼ lengths while riding with, Joe Fanning.
The three races that followed after the maiden were a disaster with a tenth and then two fourth positions.
The marking line between both the fourth positions was the distance and margin by which Key Gold lost. She performed far better on 14th June, 2012 at Yarmouth over a mile and six furlongs in the Betvictor On Your Mobile Handicap than the Sportingbet Stakes (Handicap) at York over a mile and four furlongs.
Her performnace was relatively appealing over the longer distance, over which she is getting a chance again today.
It is being hoped that the Jaber Abdullah owned will make the most of the opportunity today, and excel over the familiar distance.
