Key species becoming endangered?

Question

What do you feel we can do to prevent species such as caribou and salmon (which many predators rely on) from becoming extinct?

caribou are losing population because its raining more in the winter, freezing vital food too deep for them to get. Salmon have simply been overfished.

If it was all up to you, and you could try to boost their populations in any way, what would you do?

With the caribou, about the only thing you can do is either feed them or relocate them.  the climate changes aren't going to go away quickly enough for any other option.

As for the salmon--they are only one species that is being over fished. Some studies project that the problem is so severe that most edible species will be i n serious danger within a decade.

The only solution is to stop the fishing.  Not totally--enough to allow the populations t o start recovering.  Just as we do with land animals like dear--hunting is limited to what the species  Most fish for human consumption will eventually raised in fish farms--or we humans will change our diets.

That is going to happen--like it or not.  The time frame (10 years) may be off--but we are getting close to the point where  commercial fishing will collapse as an industry for lack of fish to catch. Sadly, we are likely to lose more than one species in the process.

I would do nothing. When there are climate changes you see changes in species and new species emerge. At the moment we have some new creatures like the hybrid 'Liger', a cross between the lion and tiger. Polar and grizzly bears have successfully mated and reproduced in the wild producing a lovely pale brown bear with the claws and hump back of a grizzly. You can only help a species so far and if you do that the animal may endure great suffering. As far as human intervention into Mother Nature's plans, 'It's not nice to fool Mother Nature.'

i suppose i would implement a feeding program for the caribou. drop a food source for them like they do for buffalo and cattle. put a stop to salmon fishing and strictly enforce it. take salmon to a fish hatchery and then restock the native waterways.
