Question:

Keyless entry not working on 1997 Suburban?

I have a 1997 K1500 Chevrolet Suburban. It started with my remote and button not working for rear 2 cargo doors. Then my remote started only working for driver door (think this is so you disarm the alarm so you can start car). Now the buttons on the doors don't work and alarm doesn't work, but remote still unlocks driver door. Not a fuse, already checked. If its a relay or something specify which one if you could.

  1. check the fuse box under the hood it may be the relays for the door locks , under the lid will tell you where the relays are  or check the owners manual also check the battery in the remote , if you replace it  you will need to reset the remote to the vehicle  to do that  stand next to the drivers door press and hold the lock and unlock buttons down at the same time for 10 to 15 seconds  the doors should cycle (ie lock and unlock) once that happens  your remote is set if you have trouble e-mail me  i have detailed instructions to reset the remote to your vehicle that may work I got them from a company i bought a remote from for my 1997 tahoe

  2. Try replacing the battery in the electronic key. It has a radio transmitter

that sounds to me like it just got weaker and weaker.

  3. try spraying in a shot of WD40 in the keylock to lubricate the parts.(there is still metal in there and they still get rusty and dry).  Try it a few times with the key first and then try again with the remote.   Can only work.

  4. your receiver might be going bad you might have to take it to the dealer to get checked or call around to shops to see if they can diagnose the problem. you can also try disconnecting you battery for a few minutes and then reprogram the remote
