  1. Your best start is to read to this forum -

    http://www.castlecops.com/HijackThis.htm...

Which will walk you thru the tools listed -

    http://wiki.castlecops.com/Malware_Remov...

One important thing is the fact that you should completely update the Operating System and ALL of the patches.  If your machine is patched for the vulnerability on the HD, then YOU cannot get infected.  It is the more proactive approach (patching your machine, keeping your software updated, using the most current firmware and drivers).  AV is ALWAYS reactive!

If you need any help (especially if the forum is slow), please let me know!

    Good Luck!

  2. try this start in safe mode F8 then run your anti virus and anti spy ware programs then reboot rerun those programs again

  3. Yesterday, my free anti-virus caught a trojan virus.

To ensure that the virus caught is not a false positive, I upload it to virus total web site to check.

    http://www.virustotal.com/analisis/c3558...

To my surprise, all the big names in Anti-virus industry cannot detect the trojan. The one that detect the trojan are mainly the free version.

I would suggest that you get Avast. It is free for personal use.

Avast boot scan in Windows safe mode is the most effective way to get rid of

stubborn trojans and viruses that keep coming back to haunt you.

These trojan and viruses hide themselves in system restore folder and many anti-virus programs cannot get rid of them. So whenever, you restart your PC,

the viruses are restore back by WIndows.

Avast boot scan help to get rid of them in the system restore folders and ensure your system are clean.

  4. I don't bloody know!

But will keep my eye on this Q as want to know myself. Grrr

  5. key loggers are an absolute menace.

how can u be sure that someone has not already committed an identity fraud using ur data?

open task manager, check for any suspiciousous program running, end it.

  6. Usually a full virus scan, and adware scan will capture them.

I've had ones that passed thru both those, but just knocking them out of the registry worked - look at a hijackthis log to see what's starting up.   Sometimes they masquerade as known program names of course, but you can usually tell from their locations.

Also, make sure you look through your firewall to make sure you know what programs can access the internet. Knock-out anything new or suspicious.

  7. You may have to backup all the files you need onto disk, and wipe your hard drive, if you cant find it anywhere yourself :(

MAKE SURE YOU DONT TYPE ANY CONFIDENTIAL INFORMATION!!!!

  8. download superantispyware and run a FULL scan however long it takes; free here

    http://www.filehippo.com/download_supera...

update definitions then scan; it is easy to use and has one of the best detection rates.

If you need an extra measure of protection apart from standard firewalls and antivirus, consider installing Threatfire - free here

    http://www.threatfire.com/

for online protection, try McAfee Site Advisor - it warns of potentially harmful sites

    free

  9. You have to harden Windows PCs a lot. Bone up on your network security reading or get a Mac.

Actually, the NSA can listen in on any Windows PC since Microsoft gave them a built-in backdoor (second link).
