Keys gets his chance back into the Betfred Cesarewitch at Newmarket on Saturday after delighting the trainer during work out
Roger Charlton’s Keys now has a fair chance spurting up for the upcoming Betfred Cesarewitch at Newmarket on Saturday.
"Keys (is) on course for the Cesarewitch after a clean scope this morning. I was pleased with his work on Saturday but we need a good week with him”, tweeted Charlton.
Previously his participation was doubtful because he had failed to satisfy the connections as to the caliber of the race which he had to contest. While training, Roger Charlton found that the horse was proving his capability time and again which should suffice
for giving him a chance to test his skills in the race.
The four-year-old Irish last raced and won at the Ascot on 22nd July with Jamie Spencer. He is one of those horses who have the charisma of breaking their maiden at the first chance presented to them.
This chance he availed in November last year and did not take long at all to acquire a hat trick which was under his belt by the beginning of next year, January, 2011.
For those entire three races, he had Jamie Spencer onboard. Keys and Jamie Spencer will again be in for their next hat trick in case they end up winning at this event.
At Newbury on 16th July Keys raced for the title with eleven other horses sharing the track.
He held up in rear, then made a smooth headway on inside from three furlong out, tracked leader by second furlong out which grew a bit challenging after a while, led one furlong out and raced till the end of the track unthreatened.
Paul Webber’s Danvilla with William Carson was the runner up and Jonjo O’Neill’s Royal Diamond who managed finishing at the third position.
Then it was the Ascot on 22nd July which was again claimed by Keys. As before, it was not in the rear but was a steady start still where he held up in the last quartet, ridden and effort over two furlong out, edged right and driven to challenge
over one furlong out, led and edged left inside final furlong, stayed on well and finished in time.
Mark Johnson’s Colour Vision with Silvestre De Sousa was the second in the race to cross the wire followed by Kevin Ryan’s Red Kestrel with Julie Burke onboard.
The competing possibilities that Keys would have to face are nearly endless but the line-up will get finalised soon and Keys is not the sort of a horse who lacks experience or talent so the combination of two will help him through the Betfred Cesarewitch
at Newmarket on Saturday.
