Keys to become Richard Hughes ride for the Betfred Cesarewitch at Newmarket on Saturday
It will be Richard Hughes riding Keys at the Betfred Cesarewitch at Newmarket on Saturday. At his two previous races this season he has been riding with Jamie Spencer but as he is to ride Dance and Dance in American that very same day so he will lose on
riding Keys at Newmarket.
It is not that Keys was an assured entry into this race the week before rather he earned it for himself by satisfying his trainer Roger Charlton through the work out which diminished the ‘dirty scope’ brought under consideration before.
"Keys (is) on course for the Cesarewitch after a clean scope this morning. I was pleased with his work on Saturday but we need a good week with him”, tweeted Charlton.
It is not easy or fair to view one jockey better than the other as they both are almost equally compatible and have records that would inspire any jockey in the industry but then again Keys has never been onboard Richard Hughes before which might as well
give birth to just some extent of uncertainty. The four-year-old has won his first three races with jockey Paddy Brennan, qualifying both of them for a hat trick.
He was once ridden by Ted Durcan at Kempton on 11th May, coming second, then by Paul Hanagan at Haydock on 8th June, coming eighth and then on 29th June with George Baker at Kempton where Keys stood second again. The last
two victories came his way with Jamie Spencer. Despite the fact that there were other options to ride Keys but the connections did end up making a wise decision as Richard Hughes might as well be the one who can ride Keys to victory this Saturday.
Richard Hughes almost religiously rides for his father in law but this season he also rode for Noel Quinlan, Mahmood Al Zarooni, John Dunlop, Mark Usher, Walter Swinburn, J R Jenkins, Nerys Dutfield and a few others but it has been mostly Richard Hannon.
With four-year-olds, Richard Hughes has 184 wins out of 1354 runs, 156 seconds and 146 thirds. This race will tell if the wins will become 185 or will it impact the rest of the statistics.
