I'm starting cross country for the first time today and I am really nervous. I'm a good runner, but I'm scared I'm going to do horrible and give up. Can anyone give me some tips on how to do well?

Thanks

  1. Don't give up. If you are really tired and in pain, just slow down to a very slow jog. Don't walk. I have had practice and this is my first time running xc. It is really hard for me but I just keep trying to keep running even though I am going extremely slow. Sure I feel bad when I am running so slow but when I finish, I am just happy I didn't walk or stop. Don't drink milk before you run ugh. Drink plenty of water so you dont get dehydrated.

  2. you won't give up

xc is all about stamina and speed

stamina - long but slower runs

i would go for about 5-6-7 miles SLOWLY

    speed- strength and flexibility

strength= gym your hs will have- go for leg extensions for your quads and hamstring, and faster shorter runs, you coach will have those workouts

flexibility- stretch everyday good 10 minutes

    drink a lot of water

don't be afraid of being competitive, you must compete to succeed

    LOL, gl

  3. Everyone has the same fear, going into their first season.  Don't worry, you'll be fine!

    My tips:

-Don't slack off.  Though it seems obvious, many people don't take workout or recovery days seriously, and as such, don't perform well in races.  Practice well, race well.

-Be sure to hydrate properly, as it will improve your performance.

-Learn certain points on the race course, and use them as "checkpoints".  It helps you mentally to know you're passing that big hill by the turn, and that there aren't any other hills, or to realize that you are passing the big rock, and should start your kick.

-Stay calm.  Hard as it is, this will keep you in the right mind to race well.

    hope it helps!

  4. i'm asuming you're done your training.. so during the race (the best advice i can give you..

don't give up, get into a comfortable breathing pattern.. and don't burn ouut too fast. save some energy for the final sprint.. in beginning of the race you quickly jog (without tiring yourself) up to the front of the crowd (when everyone just sorta bunch up at the start of the race), and get into your comfortable breathing pattern... since you say you're a good runner, don't worry about your legs, if you're worried about people passing you, jog harder but keep the same breathing pattern (don't breathe any harder, it might be sorta hard).. you have to train to be able to catch up to people and not get tired at it. but if you might tire out (iunno how stong your stamina is..) by the time you reach the point where you sprint, give it your all don't stop.and most importantly KEEP YOUR HEAD!! don't worry bout it so much,

if you follow my advice you'll actually finish better than you thought... the first time i did cross country, i was in 14th place, i was in grd.6. and i was taught my advice i was giving you from my elementary school coach. for my grd.7 and 8 meets, i was 2nd place for both. i'm going into grd.10 now.. and for my grd.9 meet i was 11th...

    hope i helped, good luck
