Khalid Abdulla’s Midday and Sea Moon to contest at the Breeders’ Cup
Last year the four-year-old Workforce who belongs to the same owner as Sea Moon, Khalid Abdulla, was withdrawn from the Breeders’ Cup at the eleventh hour as according to the connections the going would have proved to be quite firm which is not what the
Derby and Arc winner is used to.
Sea Moon, being a close relative to Workforce, is free from such concerns and would not face any inconvenience due to the ground conditions in the Breeders’ Cup Turf on 5th November.
The reason for the unfavourable turf last year owes to the sheer lack of rain for months which made the conditions extreme and worse but this time the same situation does not persist. Sea Moon has been working, travelling well and seems to be at peace with
the track.
"Last year they hadn't had rain for months and it brought about extreme conditions, but it's been different this time. I'm pretty sure everything will be fine for Sea Moon. He travelled over very well, has gone out again today and seems in good order”, explained
Grimthorpe.
Grimthorpe, racing manager for owner Prince Khalid Abdullah has also been observing the other candidate, Midday, for the Breeders’ Cup Turf for the same owner.
Midday was seen enjoying a gentle breeze on the dirt course, preparing herself for the big day. Last year she was the runner up of the Filly And Mare Turf which she has won previously too.
"Midday also travelled over extremely well and came out of her Ascot race in very good shape. She ran well there considering she got shuffled back at a vital stage”, said Grimthorpe.
Both the horses of Khalid Abdullah are capable of performing. The three-year-old colt of Beat Hollow is trained by Sir Michael Stoute and the other entry, five-year-old Midday is being trained by Sir Henry Cecil.
Sea Moon has remained more successful throughout the season as compared to Midday who has more experience so both the entries have their positives that will later be reflective of their performance during the Breeders’ Cup. The outcome of course will also
impact the future options for both the horses.
