Khalin Joshi wins the PGTI’s Final Qualifying Stage
Khalin Joshi fired a four-under par 68, in the final round of the PGTI’s Final Qualifying Stage for the 2013 season, to record a six-shot victory  over Sri Lanka’s K Prabagaran and Matloob Ahmed Rana of Pakistan.
The tournament was being staged at the Royal Calcutta Golf Club in Calcutta, India, and offered full-time playing rights for the 2013 PGTI season, to the top-39 and ties to finish on the leaderboard.
Right from the beginning of the tournament, Joshi maintained consistency in his game and did not allow his rivals to come close to him on the leaderboard.
He got off to a decent start on day one by carding a four-under par 68. He then added 71 and 73 to his scorecard, in the second and the third round, respectively.
He then stretched his lead on day four by carding five birdies against a lone bogey, to accumulate a four-day total of an eight-under par 280.
The front nine of the course witnessed him recording birdies on the fourth, fifth and the ninth hole, while conceding the only bogey of the day on the seventh hole.
He then maintained consistency on the back nine of the course and added another two shots to his scorecard, by draining birdie putts on the 10th and the 16th hole.
Talking to the reporters after winning the event, he expressed his pleasure in ending his maiden professional season on a high note.
According to him, the victory will boost his morale for the upcoming Professional Golf Tour of India season.
In addition to that, he also expressed his wish to further improve his game, in a bid to play alongside some of the best players from India.
“This win gives me a lot of confidence ahead of my maiden professional season. My short-game was pretty sharp this week and I also putted well. I kept the ball in play which in turn helped me post some good scores,” he said.
Rana, in the meantime, was also pleased with his performance in the tournament. He carded a two-under par overall score to secure his place in the 2013 PGTI season.
