Amir Khan, the emphatic British boxer is on the brink of stardom in the American sports market as he is about mere one fight away from reaching into the category of top 10 pound-for-pound fighters in the world.
Revealing about the boxer’s future plans, Richard Schaefer, one of the most powerful promoters in boxing, said that plans for organising a match between Khan and Floyd Mayweather Jnr were being worked upon, which could take place in 2012.
Schaefer, the former banker also went on revealing that if Khan remained successful during his debut fights at Las Vegas which is going to be organised on Saturday night, he will make him follow a strategy which would take the 23-year-old boxer to new heights
of his game. However, at Las Vegas, winning match against Marcos Maidana, the heavy-handed Argentine will not at all be easy.
A success against Maidana will pave the ways for Khan to have Mayweather in the ring. Schaefer, the ultimate promoter, besides pulling power with Mayweather, is currently having two other boxers in his books as well. He believes that anyone or both of them
will most probably reach superstardom in boxing and will surely cross the mainstream recognition. One of them is Saul Alverez, while the other one is none other than Khan.
Making investment plans according to the schedule of Khan are necessary for Schaefer as he believes that the British boxer was the only one who had the charisma to draw ever greater global interest from around the world. Talking about Khan’s potential Schaefer
said: "Amir is coming along really well, he captured the US media with his performance in New York in April against Paulie Malignaggi, and the US now wants to see his tremendous talent again live on Home Box Office. We all know that Marcos Maidana is going
to be a genuine, stiff test for him."
He further said that in his opinion, it was going to be a huge fight for spectators both in US and the UK, and in order to get into the top 15 pound for pound category, Khan did not have any option except to win the battle.
Concluding his remarks, Schaefer said: "The American sports-watching public love winners and Amir is a winner, and with his devotion to his family, there is a feel-good factor about him. He is a great sports story – Olympics silver medallist for GB, Pakistani
background, great athlete, looks that appeal."
