Khan believes he will unify titles once again – Boxing News
Former unified WBA and IBF super lightweight champion Amir Khan believes he will once again unify world titles when he takes on Danny Garcia on July 14. According to Khan, if the IBF decides to strip Lamont Peterson and give him the titles back, his clash
with Garcia will be a title unifying one. Danny Garcia is the current WBC Light Welterweight Champion. If Khan gets his titles back, the bout will have both the pugilists putting their titles on line, probably.
According to Khan, “We’ve got wait until the hearing with the Nevada Commission.” It should be noted here that Nevada State Athletic would conduct the hearing on June 13 in order to decide whether Peterson should retain the titles or not.
According to Khan’s manage Asif Vali, there will be three title belts on the line against Garcia if Khan gets the titles back. He added, “If the appeal is rejected and they strip Peterson of the titles, the fight with Amir could be ruled a no contest and
the titles either given back to Amir or declared vacant. There’s a very strong chance that all three belts will be on the line on July 14 as well as The Ring magazine belt. The more the better for Amir, because it makes the fight bigger.”
Upon hearing the news of Peterson’s drug test which eventually got his rematch cancelled, Khan asserted that Peterson is a cheat. Khan further said that his life was in danger against Peterson last year in December. Now, Khan wants the commission to ban
Peterson for life from the sport so that others do not follow his footsteps. According to Khan, Peterson became a legend after defeating him in Washington, but now he is nothing more than just a cheat.
Khan was scheduled to face Peterson in a rematch on May 19 at the Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas. The British-Pakistani pugilist was highly confident that he will defeat Peterson and regain his titles, but that will not happen anymore. For now, Khan is
going head to head with Garcia on July 14 at a venue yet unknown.
