Khan compares Virgil Hunter with Freddie Roach – Boxing News
Former IBF and WBA light welterweight titlist Amir Khan spoke his heart out during a recent press conference for his upcoming December 15 bout against Carlos Molina. Khan compared his former trainer Freddie Roach with his current trainer Virgil Hunter. According
to the Briton, Roach taught him how to defeat but Hunter is improving his game.
“I wasn’t really taught what mistakes I was making, I was taught how to beat opponents going into those fights,” said Khan. “With Virgil I am learning on how to improve myself,” Khan told Fightnews.com on working with Virgil Hunter.”
Khan fired Roach a month back following his knockout loss to American unbeaten fighter Danny Garcia. The then WBA light welterweight titlist could not defend himself against Garcia’s heavy blows, and finally became victim to a huge left hook blow by the
American. While Garcia celebrated unifying the WBC and WBA titles, Khan walked his way out as a top-notch fighter who gave in to a newbie.
Now, Khan knows it is his time to rise and shine. Against Molina is Khan’s only chance to rebuild his brand. After two consecutive losses against Lamont Peterson and Danny Garcia, Khan has already suffered enough damage to his reputation. Another blow can
end the career of this Briton Olympian.
“Amir is a great fighter and I think Virgil Hunter is a good trainer but when we are in thhttp://www.fightnews.com/Boxing/khan-molina-kickoff-press-conference-147368at ring I think the first few rounds he will work on a strategy but after some pressure he
will be the same Amir Khan,” said Molina while talking about facing Khan on December 15 in Los Angeles.
Both fighters are confident of winning the show but Molina has more weight, as he is an unbeaten fighter. Khan has promised fans to show an entirely different side during the show. After working with Hunter, it seems like Khan has learnt a lot, in particular,
he has improved his defence.
Since Molina is not a puncher, Khan stands the chance of winning the show. He needs a knockout win to ensure he restabilises his career the way it once was. If he loses, the Briton will be nothing more than just a fading superstar.
