Khan wants to add defence coach to his camp – Boxing News
Former WBA and IBF light welterweight titlist Amir Khan believes it is time for him to revamp his training regime. Since he was knocked out by Danny Garcia due to poor defence skills, Khan wants to add a defence trainer to his camp.
“At the moment I'm happy with Freddie but there are a few things that I want to change and I'm going to speak to my team to see how they feel about things and we'll just take it from there. I'm going to take my time, maybe watch the fight a few more times,
see where I need to improve and see if Freddie can improve me in the departments,” said Khan while talking about adding more to his skills set.
Khan added that he is going through a crucial phase of his career and so he needs to make sure everything is perfect for him. He wants to pick a trainer who goes with him wherever he wants and highlights the mistakes he makes to ensure his game is smooth
and sound.
Khan was knocked out by Danny Garcia in round four. He suffered the first knockout shot in round 3 but recovered. However, Khan could not get hold of himself, allowing Garcia to take maximum advantage of him. Khan was annihilated in the ring and defeated
in a humiliating manner.
Later on, in an interview, Khan agreed that it was his blunder that gave Garcia the opportunity to strike. According to Khan, he was fighting with his guard down, something that a fighter should never do. Even Khan’s trainer Freddie Roach believes Khan made
a mistake due to which he lost.
Khan’s loss to Garcia was a devastating one, not just physically but on his career as well. It was Khan’s second ever knockout defeat and the second consecutive defeat of his career after Lamont Peterson in December last year.
For now, the Bolton proud wants to make sure he gets the right training. Khan has already indicated towards firing Freddie Roach, if the latter is unable to give him enough time. Currently, the former champion is weighing his options to see where he should
move.
