Khan wants to ‘recharge his batteries’ during the holy month of Ramadan – Boxing News
Disgruntled Amir Khan is eager to get a title shot at Danny Garcia, the man who took away his WBA light welterweight throne. Khan had acquired the title just a week before going head to head with Garcia, and then lost it unfortunately.
The defeat was shocking for Khan, as well as for his fans around the globe. The Briton fell to Garcia’s vicious neck shot and could not get back to his game later on. He was physically and mentally dismantled but he tried his best to stay in the game.
Now, the Bolton proud wants to relax and get back to himself before challenging Garcia for a rematch.
“I'm going to spend the next few weeks relaxing during Ramadan and recharging my batteries after what was a 16-week training camp for me,” read Khan’s statement released today.
“I'll then sit down with my team to assess the options in front of me,” Khan added.
He then congratulated Garcia for the win, appreciating his performance.
“Well done to Danny Garcia on his performance, but I promise I'll bounce back stronger than ever as I look to regain my spot at the top of the 140lb division.”
“Many fighters down the years have bounced back from defeat to prove their greatness and that's exactly what I intend to do.”
He further said that he has never backed off a challenge and he never will. Khan believes his loss was due to his own blunder of keeping his neck and face open for Garcia to attack. Moreover, Khan acknowledges his excessive travelling with trainer Freddie
Roach keeps him away from focusing merely on his training.
There are chances of the Bolton proud parting ways with his long time trainer and mentor Freddie Roach. Khan knows Roach has been his success factor since 2008, but agrees that he has always been Roach’s second priority, the first one being Filipino Manny
Pacquiao.
Khan’s defeat has changed his career. Most fighters and analysts believe Khan should retire as his career is just a ‘write off’, in the words of Briton IBF super champion Carl Froch.
