Khan’s camp surprised over the Briton’s shocking knockout defeat – Boxing News
Amir Khan, the former WBA and IBF unified light welterweight titlist, suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of Danny Garcia. Khan was knocked out twice, just when the referee decided to halt the show. Surprisingly, Khan seemed off his game throughout
the fight, while Garcia was sound and solid.
Although Khan believed he was in the shape to continue the fight, the referee stopped the show, leaving the Briton dismantled. However, later on, Khan did accept that the referee’s actions were for the good.
“I agree with Freddie. Amir will be back. He's an exciting fighter, one of the best pound for pound. He likes to entertain and the public like to see fights like that. We will let him rest and see what opportunities are out there for him at 140lb. Sometimes
his balls are too big for his own good, but that's what makes him the fighter he is. It doesn't mean we have to write off Amir Khan. Who wouldn't want to see him again?” said Richard Schaefer, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions.
On the other hand, Khan’s trainer Freddie Roach thought Khan was pressurised by Garcia’s father’s comments and so he played aggressive. He added, “The plan was to counterpunch, use the jab, but Mr Garcia got under his skin, and his heart got in the way.
Amir says he will be back. Hopefully Garcia will come to England and we will fight him over there.”
Khan’s knockout defeat shocked many of his fans worldwide. Even the former champion is aware of the fact that he has let millions of his fans down. Therefore, he took the time to apologise to everyone via his Twitter.
Garcia not only knocked Khan out in the ring but he also has put an end to Khan’s dreams to fight Mayweather or Bradley. The Bolton proud will now have to find his way from bottom up. He is no longer the showstopper, but a fighter who has suffered two consecutive
losses. First, he lost to Lamont Peterson last year in December and now to Garcia. At this stage of his career, Khan cannot afford to be knocked out the way he was on Saturday night and it seems like he has a lot of work to do before making a comeback.
