Khar wants bilateral cricketing ties resumed with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 – Cricket News Update
Hina Rabbani Khar, the Foreign Minister of Pakistan, is eager to see bilateral cricket ties resumed with their arch rivals India as soon as possible.
The Pakistan Foreign Minister said that since both governments feel that sport is the best way to curtail tensions between the two countries, serious efforts should be made for the revival of cricketing relations.
"Pakistan pushes for cricket ties with every country, especially with India," said Miss Khar, who is on an official tour of the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 on Monday, February
27, 2012.
"I remember that Prime Minister http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Manmohan-Singh-c74213 said that it (cricket) is a great way to go and if both the governments feel it's a great way, then we should go that way," she added further.
Cricketing ties between the two countries have reached an impasse since the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 attacks in November 2008. The Indian government suspected Pakistani involvement in the deadly attacks and in the aftermath, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)
cancelled its January 2009 tour to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755. Ever since the attacks, bilateral cricket between the two nations have been on hold.
The Pakistan Foreign Minister added that the Pakistan government, along with the Pakistan Cricket Board, is eager to resume ties with their arch nemesis.
"PCB chairman has written letters to the Indian board and when I was in India (last year) I noticed a great deal of keenness on the part of India and the International Cricket Council (http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625) to revive this brand of cricket," said Khar.
She further added that the government of Pakistan not only supports but also emphasises that international cricket should be played amongst all countries.
She said that her country has always maintained that cultural outreach is essential to improve the image of Pakistan in the world.
Pakistan has not hosted an international match since March 2009, as international players are not willing to tour the terror stricken country. The three-year drought now seems to have reached an end, as the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 Cricket Board has expressed their willingness
to send its players to Pakistan in April this year for a three-match one-day series.
