Khawaja Javed Najam reveals Pakistani players’ links with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mazhar-c75448 Majeed
Khawaja Javed Najam, the former security manager of the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Salman-c88163 Butt and Kamran Akmal used to violate rules and regulations to entertain bookmaker Mazhar Majeed.
It was the fourth day of the six-day hearing of the ICC’s anti-corruption tribunal, when Najam gave details in his statement. He further revealed that some of the players used to go to any lengths in maintaining their links with the agent brothers, Mazhar and Azhar Majeed.
He stated that a meeting took place in Wahab Riaz’s room where Butt and Kamran Akmal were discussing something with Azhar.
Wahab Riaz is the fast bowler, who had also been interrogated by the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Scotland-c756 Yard after the News of the World had broken the news about the spot-fixing scandal.
What surprised the officials as well as others in the room was Najam’s revelation that a national selector was also present at the time of the meeting.
In a video, Wahab was shown giving his jacket to Mazhar and then taking it back. During interrogation, Mazhar had admitted that the jacket was exchanged because he had put 10,000 pounds into it for a spot-fixing exercise, which was to take place in the fourth Test match.
Najam, who had stepped down from his post before the team’s visit to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754, while testifying before the tribunal, said that he constantly observed the Majeed brothers with the Pakistani team players during their different tours.
He also disclosed that despite giving many warnings, players did not distance themselves from the so called bookmakers.
The former security manager of the team said, “After being spotted in London, the brothers were told to leave the hotel room in 30 seconds. The Majeed brothers were seen during the World Cup T20 in the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760 and the players were told to stay away from them”.
He further disclosed, “When I saw Azhar in Riaz’s room in London, I asked the fast bowler to bring him out. Kamran Akmal and Salman Butt were also sitting with them. When Azhar came out, one of the national team selectors also accompanied him and said he wanted match tickets from Riaz”.
He told the tribunal that the selector went to see Azhar out of the hotel, while Salman and Akmal had apologized for the breach.
