Khawaja eager to start afresh – Cricket News Update
Australian left-hander, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Usman-Khawaja-c2729, says he is eager to start afresh after deciding to move to Queensland in bid to resurrect his Test career.
The Pakistani-born player was touted as a long-term prospect for the Aussie national team after some impressive showings for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-South-Wales-c823. However, since making his international debut in early 2011, things have hardly gone to plan for the 25-year-old, and his failure to showcase his true potential has cost him dearly.
After playing six Tests, the last of which came against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 in December 2011, he was duly dropped, and was further dealt a blow by the national selectors, who axed him from the contracted list of players for the current season.
Failure to retain his position in the Test side eventually stalled his career at the domestic front as well, as the Blues finished second-last. Khawaja failed to score a century, and consequently decided to move to Queensland.
His decision was influenced by many factors, with the most suitable being the chance to work with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Darren-Scott-Lehmann-c52487, the former Australian left-hander and the current Bulls coach. Also his form at the Gabba, his new home, has been pleasing, where he has notched up two centuries, including his maiden in 2009.
He further played for Derbyshire in the recently concluded English County season, where he helped the Division two side achieve promotion. Having gained some confidence back, the left-hander is confident ahead of the upcoming Australian domestic season, where he will play his first Sheffield Shield match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Australia-c844.
"I came up to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Queensland-c834 cricket because one I felt like I needed a fresh start, two I wanted to win, and I felt like being here gave me the best chance to enjoy my cricket, start afresh, and hopefully I'm here to help contribute to Queensland cricket winning as many competitions as we can. If I can put my hand up and contribute to the team that will help."
"I've got a lot of hard work in front of me and there's going to be a lot of tough times for me to get through. I'm just here to be honest to enjoy my cricket, have fun and the rest will take care of itself.”
