Left-handed Australian batsman, Usman Khawaja, feels he is ready to step into the national side following Michael Hussey’s decision to retire from the Test format after the Sydney game against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758.
The 26-year-old, who was also hailed by West Indian dynamite http://www.senore.com/Cricket/CH-Gayle-c1221, believes he is ready and primed to fill the void left by veteran middle-order batsman Michael Hussey.
“There's probably no better time (to make a Test comeback) but we will have to wait and see. If the opportunity arises and I get my chance I'll be really happy. I don't know until I play again but I feel like I'm in a good spot and I'm hitting the ball
as well as I ever have,” shared Khawaja.
The young batsman is also in contention to cover for skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 last year, Khawaja is averaging 29.22 in the 6 matches he has featured
in. Nonetheless, the talented player stands third in Sheffield Shield ranks this season, having 438 runs to his name (at an average of 39.81).
The 26-year-old was also in the race to replace veteran http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Phillip-Hughes-c2185 bagging that spot, Khawaja still awaits his chance for a Test recall. Eyeing a comeback in the Australian squad, the gifted batsman was backed by
Sydney Thunder teammate, Gayle, who believes his future in the Australian side is bright.
