Khosit Phetpradab stuns Petr Koukal in second round of Canada Open 2013 – Badminton news
Thailand’s budding badminton player, Khosit Phetpradab, surprised everyone with his incredible performance in Men’s Singles second round when he outplayed Czech Republic’s Petr Koukal at the Yonex Canada Open 2013 in Richmond, on Thursday, July 18.
The in-form Khosit, who is an un-seeded player in the main draw, was at his best as he played with remarkable speed and defeated Koukal who was 15th seeded player in this championship.
Khosit played best badminton of his career as he dominated the pace of rallies all the way against his experienced opponent. He did not lose his focus especially in ending points and won the match in straight games with a comfortable score of 21-17 and 21-16.
On the contrary, the higher ranked Koukal failed to elevate his level of play and also could not handle the mounting pressure. He made many simple mistakes and got a shocking defeat from the hands of his un-seeded opponent.
On paper, Koukal was far ahead in skills and temperament and he was the favourite to win this match. However, things did not go according to the predictions as Khosit wronged everyone by playing flawless badminton.
Thai shuttler was in complete control and he did not let Koukal to play freely. Until the mid-game interval, the lower ranked Thai shuttler was in command on the score board.
After the break, Khosit continued his spirited play by keeping the pace of rallies high. He was incredibly positive and focused on court and eventually grabbed the opening game with a convincing 21-17 score on the board.
In the following set, Koukal tried to play attacking badminton but he was lacking precision in his shots and also failed to create gaps.
On the other hand, Khosit progressed in a decent manner and he did not show any sign of urgency to finish up rallies. Until the break, he was again in strong position.
After the interval, Khosit showed his patience as he prolonged the duration of rallies and waited for the right time to attack. It worked really well in his favour and he won the second game with a comfortable score of 21-16.
