Khromacheva/Zanevska defeat Sasnovich/Zhao in the second round of Girls’ Doubles – French Open 2011
The Russian-Ukrainian duo of Irina Khromacheva and Maryna Zanevska defeated the Belarusian-Canadian pair of Aliaksandra Sasnovich and Carol Zhao in straight sets 6-2, 6-1 in the first round of Girls Doubles at the 2011 French Open
on Tuesday. Khromacheva and Zanevska took just 59 minutes to undo their contenders.
The match started with the Russian-Ukrainian duo dominating. Both Khromacheva and Zanevska utilized their talent well, landing in 68 percent of their first serves. The took an early lead and broke their opponents in the eighth
game, taking a 6-2 lead in the first set. Sasnovich and Zhao were unable to hold their serve and could not break back on time. The Russian-Ukrainian pair, on the other side of the net, had great co-ordination throughout the first set and was never broken by
their opponents.
Khromacheva and Zanevska delivered 68 percent of the first serve and converted 59 percent of them into points. Sasnovich and Zhao on the other hand hit 72 percent of the first serve, winning 50 percent of points on their first
serve and 57 percent of points on their second serve respectively. The second seeded pair converted two of the four break points en route to the second set. Many Pundits predicted a tough test for Russian-Ukrainian pair in the first round but Khromacheva and
Zanevska were having none of it and blazed their way through the first set in just 31 minutes.
After winning the first set, Khromacheva and Zanevska were much encouraged when their opponents faltered at the very moment they should have gone for the kill to tie the score but another break of serve at the start of the second
set meant the game was almost up for the Belarusian-Canadian pair.
The Russian-Ukrainian pair fired 80 percent of the first serve, winning 65 percent of points on first serve and 60 percent of points on second serve respectively. The Belarusian-Canadian duo on the other hand, kept their first
serve percentage at 75 percent and won 47 percent of points on their first serve and 40 percent of points on their second serve respectively.
Everything worked perfectly for the second seed as they looked completely at ease on the red stuff, and continued to play exactly the way they had planned. They wrapped up their clean effort by scoring 62 percent of points on service,
69 percent of points on return and a number of 55 points in total.
Khromacheva and Zanevska now move on ahead to face the Romanian-Ukrainian pair of Ilka Csoregi and Sofiya Kovalets in the second round of the French Open.
