Khrystyna Yurchenko wins Women’s 100m breaststroke gold – 2012 Paralympic Games
Khrystyna Yurchenko of Ukraine seized gold medal of the Women’s 100m breaststroke in SB9 category on concluding day of the swimming events at the 2012 London Paralympic Games in Aquatics Centre on Saturday, September 8.
The Ukrainian swimmer served notice of her talent in the breaststroke discipline as she showed her urgency towards the finishing blockade for gold medal.
With her unrelenting efforts, Yurchenko remained half a body length ahead of her closest competitor and touched the wall for gold medal with a wonderful timing of 1 minute and 17.81 seconds.
The champion was followed by Sophie Pascoe of New Zealand, who remained 0.57 seconds apart and emerged on the finishing blockade as second best finisher by reporting a time of 1 minute and 18.38 seconds.
Pascoe was traced by Harriet Lee of Great Britain, who stayed more than a body length behind and emerged on the wall for bronze medal by submitting a time of 1 minute and 19.53 seconds.
The British swimmer was chased by Nina Ryabova of Russia, who stayed only 0.14 seconds slower from overpowering the bronze medallist and transpired on the finishing end as fourth fastest swimmer with a timing of 1 minute and 19.67 seconds.
Subsequently, fifth position of the discipline was obtained by Mariya Timofeyeva of Ukraine, who stayed nearly one and a half body length apart and touched the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 20.92 seconds.
Sixth fastest spot of the event was obtained by Sarai Gascon of Spain, who stayed 0.58 seconds slower from her foregoing finisher and tapped the wall with a timing of 1 minute and 21.50 seconds.
Gascon was followed by Daniela Gimenez of Argentina, who was 0.49 seconds behind and concluded her race with an effort of 1 minute and 21.99 seconds for seventh position.
Eighth position of the race was obtained by Meng Zhang of China, who stayed considerably slower from her preceding swimmer and tapped the wall with an effort of 1 minute and 23.11 seconds.
In addition, Yurchenko received massive appreciation from the audience for her gruelling form after the event.
