Kia Classic: Caroline Hedwall and Ji Young Oh lose momentum in second round
Caroline Hedwall and Ji Young Oh, who shared the lead with Yani Tseng in the first round of the Kia Classic, tumbled from the top of the leaderboard in the second round, leaving Tseng to grab the top spot.
Hedwall fired 72 on the second day, whereas her nearest rival Oh came off worse and recorded an unimpressive 76.
Hedwall and Oh, whom the fans did not expect to display the best performance in the Kia Classic, concluded the 1st round by sharing the lead.
Their performance led the analysts to predict that Tseng and other players might face trouble staying strong in the game.
Caroline Hedwall, who is a Swedish star, showed a stellar performance on most of the holes in the first round, carding a 5-under 67.
On the other hand, Hedwall’s competitor Ji Young Oh, a South Korean, carded the same score to prove her worth
The current world number one Yani Tseng performed amazingly well, as she also shared the lead with the other two players. Tseng fired a 67.
The Kia Classic being played at La Costa Resort and Spa is featuring a fearsome field, comprising the defending champion Sandra Gal and giants like Paula Creamer.
Hedwall and Oh kicked off their first rounds with confidence, although they appeared to misjudge the ball on some of the holes.
Oh is a prominent player in South Korea, as she has proved her mettle on the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) by racking up two triumphs.
Oh expressed her confidence in her game after the first round of the event, saying she is in high spirits. Determined not to surrender to her nerve, Oh kept the pressure on her nearest rivals right from the start.
However, she messed up her second round score by making careless shots.
She said that she is glad that she managed to grab an early lead, meaning the next rounds will not prove as difficult as she had anticipated.
"Everything is good for me," I'm really calm," Oh said. "My shot is really good, so I have a good score."
Hedwall, on the other hand, was also thrilled to find herself in a stronger position. She said that she adhered to her work ethic and focused on her putting.
"I've been hitting it very solid lately," Hedwall said. "I felt like if I could have a good day, I could shoot low. I made a lot of birdies and made it close, so that helped a lot".
