Kia Classic to feature current and future LPGA stars
The Kia Classic is going to be held at La Costa Resort and Spa from March 19-25, with a strong field featuring competent players on the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association).
The Kia Classic is expected to stage a tough battle as the current and future rising players have committed their participation in the much-hyped event.
According to the details, a number of top-ranked players in the women’s golf rankings will be gracing La Costa Resort and Spa, attracting spectators in large numbers.
The officials of the tournament had avoided mentioning the names of the confirmed players a few days ago.
However, now it has been reported that 9 top-ranked players in the Rolex Rankings will be present in Kia Classic.
Observers have said that the participation of big names in Kia Classic is something officials have been seeking.
Since the success of an event largely depends on the number of key players, Kia Classic is surely going to attract a bigger crowd and more money through sponsorship.
The tournament officials said that the players who have confirmed their participation for the match include the current world number one Yani Tseng, Paula Creamer, Michelle Wie and Critie Kerr.
The announcement of the players’ names has triggered interest among fans and it is expected the event will go the way the officials want it to.
The field will not only feature LPGA giants, but there will also be local players putting their skills to test at La Costa Resort.
The officials released the name of rising local stars, that include Jennifer Johnson, San Clemente High School graduate Ryann O’Toole, Rancho Bernardo High School graduate Tiffany Joh, Temecula native Sydnee Michaels and Carlsbad High School graduate Leta
Lindley.
The participation of local players will make sure that the event is designed to give opportunities to rising golfers who often do not get enough chances to prove their worth in big events.
“We’re thrilled to have such a strong field already for the Kia Classic, and to bring world-class women’s golf back to the great fans of San Diego County,” said Tournament Director Dennis Baggett.
“As the 2012 LPGA’s first full-field tournament in the U.S., we expect another highly competitive and exciting tournament,” Baggett added.
