Kicker 120.2 and pioneer deh-p3500 head unit?

I can not get the amp to come out of protection mode. and i am not sure which output to use on my head unit.

disconnect the speaker wire at the amp, then turn on, see if it's still in protection mode.  if still is, something's wrong with the unit assuming you hook up the power correctly.

your unit has a sub out, it would be the one on the far left if you look at it from the back.
