Kicker Josh Scobee can expect fresh deal as Jacksonville Jaguars start talking – NFL News
The Jacksonville Jaguars have finally shown some flexibility to the pertaining deal matter of the franchised kicker, Josh Scobee, who has recently gone explosive with his frustration over lack of contacts between the stakeholders.
A section of media has reported that both parties are back at the negotiations table to find an amicable solution to the issue. Jaguars have the deadline of July 16 to sign the player to a long-term contract, which is his long-pending demand.
It is just the start and given that both sides have shown some resistance to heed to each other’s stance, it is going to be a very difficult process.
Nevertheless, it is a great development for the player, who, in a statement a couple of days ago, expressed his anger over the non-responsive attitude of the team.
He said he has remained patient with his deal matter throughout, but Jaguars did not respond to him in equally encouraging posture.
Josh is yet to sign his franchised tender, which the management had assigned him before the start of the free agency earlier this year. The player has held out of the offseason team activities in protest to a long-term and hefty deal demand.
Earlier, general manager, Gene Smith, sounded a clear message to the kicker and other players including Maurice Jones-Drew, to service remaining part of their contracts.
Independently, some commentators backed Scobee’s new deal demand and expected a pay raise. They are of the view that players with other teams at his position are better paid.
Now the player hopes to get something done to his contract, and most likely to get an increase in his pay.
While Jaguars are yet to confirm start of the negotiations process officially, there is a hope that a contract should be ready for signing before expiry of the franchise tender deadline.
The team is going to open its training camp later this month and expects to sort out the deal matters with all players as soon as possible.
Irrespective of the latest development, there hangs a big question mark on the possibility of processing the deal request of MJD, given the management has already asked him to honour the remaining part of his deal.
