  1. that depends on how big a box you already have. you forgot to mention the size of your sub and the size of the box though.

here's a link to download the manual of your sub. everything is there including port size, box size, box dimensions and frequency response of each box.

    http://www.kicker.com/06/kicker_home.htm...

when you get to the site click on support, then technical support, then manuals, then subwoofers, then solo-baric L7, the english.

a selection of L7 manuals will appear for you to choose from.

click on the year model sub you have and just wait for the manual to load.

have fun and practice safe sound!!!

  2. First off sealed is never going to be louder than the properly ported enclosure , one of the draw backs to the acoustic suspension enclosure ( sealed) is the lack of efficiency .

To answer you question , no you should not just port your enclosure , ported enclosures generally require a lot more air space, and the port volume and length of the port are very important to the performance of your subwoofer,

let's say you have a 12" L7 the maximum sealed enclosure recommend by Kicker is in the 2 cu ft range , the recommend ported enclosure is 3.25 cu ft net it would be closer to 4 cu ft gross, you can use a smaller ported enclosure . but the port volume and length have to be change, it is not a simple as just putting a hole in your enclosure and going with it , because then all you will have is a leaky sealed enclosure, with no bass response.

  3. is it a 12 inch or 15 inch? go to some where where they have boxes and just mesure one of them..

  4. I have a 15 inch kicker L7.  very nice sub.  personally for this sub i think a sealed box is much better.  I've heard it in a sealed and a ported and sealed sounds a lot better.  If it's in a sealed box it'll be louder and you'll get more out of the amplifier.
