Kicker Rob Bironas leads Tennessee Titans win 26-23 vs Pittsburgh Steelers – NFL Recap
The Tennessee Titans managed to edge past the Pittsburgh Steelers 26-23 on Thursday (Oct. 11) to consolidate their position in American Football Conference (AFC) South division behind the leader Houston Texans.
Although the Steelers led most of the game, a 40-yard field goal from kicker Rob Bironas in the closing minute took away the game from them.
Overall, it was a better performance by the Titans despite the fact that beating the Steelers could never have been easy for them.
Matt Hasselbeck, who has replaced quarterback Jake Locker as the offence leader, led the side with 290 passing yards, while Chris Johnson gained 91 rushing yards on 19 carries. Although he could not match his previous game figure, it was a tremendous effort
from the running back.
Nevertheless, it was a welcome win by the Titans, and will allow them to show the audience how much capable they are, as coach Mike Munchak has said.
According to the coach:
"It's only one win, we know that.  But it's a great win for us at this point in the season when we needed a win to show people what we're all about."
Hasselbeck is upbeat about the win. He called it a great achievement to win against a great opposition. He has successfully covered Locker’s place who is recovering from a separated shoulder he suffered in the season opener and then in third game of the
season.
The Steelers, on the other hand, rued missing a certain win opportunity. Coach Mike Tomlin said the team did not make the same level of effort until the end of the game and that was differentiating point in the game.
He said:
"We're not doing enough things to finish games in hostile environments. That's just the reality right now. Hopefully, it's just right now. We didn't do the job tonight. We defeated ourselves in some areas. We'll go back to work. Needless to say it's disappointing.
We tip our caps to those guys."
The official is rightly worried because the team has lost a number of games this season and is lagging behind their division rivals in almost all areas of the competition. A win could have helped them consolidate their position in AFC North, behind the leaders
Baltimore Ravens. The loss has increased pressure on them.
Tomlin has led the side, which is rather young at certain positions, rather well despite difficulties, and hopes to help them to a respectable finish in the division.
QB Ben Roethlisberger’s record-breaking performance is the only highest point of the Steelers’ performance on the day. He has broken record of the franchise’s former leading passer Terry Bradshaw.
